Beautiful Minds 2018: Bringing History to Life
NAMI Iowa’s 2nd annual Beautiful Minds was another roaring success with attendees enjoying a night of entertainment and learning about mental health. As a review, Beautiful Minds showcases famous artists, actors and thinkers who lived with a mental illness. Beginning with a reception at Des Moines University, guests were able to interact with all actors and actresses playing these famous artists. From Doris Day to Lady Gaga, celebrities were brought to life! After the reception concluded, guests went to individual dinner parties at homes around the metro area to dine with their respective artist.
This was a new event and initiative in 2017; aiming to open up discussions of mental illness and bring NAMI Iowa to a new audience in Des Moines. Our goal in 2018 was to surpass the amount of money raised, the number of guests, and number of host homes. All funds raised through Beautiful Minds benefit the initiatives NAMI Iowa puts on throughout the state. From advocacy work at the state house, to training teachers to teach NAMI signature classes; these funds are necessary to keep mental health awareness, advocacy and education alive.
We are pleased to announce we achieved our goal of surpassing the 2017 event. We raised $32,000! The event had over 200 attendees, 12 famous thinkers, and 12 dinner parties with 16 sets of hosts. Thank you to everyone involved in this event. We could not have done it without your dedication and support!
