Welcome Zach Blevins to NAMI Iowa
Hello all! My name is Zach Blevins and I am excited to be the newest staff person for NAMI Iowa. I will be serving in the role of Outreach & Events Manager, in which I will particularly be focusing on NAMI Iowa’s two largest events: Beautiful Minds and NAMIWalks. I will also be ensuring that NAMI Iowa has a presence at conferences and events around the state to increase the visibility of our organizations, its mission, and its services.
A little about me: I am a transplant to Iowa; I’m originally from Roscoe, Illinois. I’m a proud graduate of Drake University (go Bulldogs!), where I studied Politics & Strategic Political Communication. At Drake, I was very involved on campus, helping organize events for Student Senate, the Office of Admission, and Drake Political Review. My favorite event I helped with was the 38th Annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest as part of the Drake Relays; getting to work with 40 adorable, slobbery bulldogs is a blast!
It is because of Drake that I learned about NAMI Iowa. For my Strategic Political Communication major, we selected NAMI Iowa as our client for our senior capstone project. Our group of seven created a comprehensive advocacy plan proposal for NAMI Iowa and its advocacy team to use during the 2018 Iowa legislative session. Through this project, we learned a lot about NAMI Iowa, its mission, its resources, and its services. So, when I had the opportunity to join the NAMI Iowa team, I was already passionate about the cause and it was an easy decision.
I am looking forward to organizing these impactful and meaningful events to allow NAMI Iowa to achieve its mission. I am also looking forward to learning more about mental health as an issue and see how this issue can be improved in Iowa.
Excited to be here!
